Shruthy Suresh (Aggarwal)
Principal Investigator
I was born and raised in Chennai for 21 years and received a B.Tech in Biotechnology from IIT Madras in 2013. I obtained a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas in 2019. I then pursued postdoctoral training in Dr. Richard White’s lab at MSKCC, New York and returned to India to start my own lab. In my free time, I love to play with my wonderful daughter, learn Carnatic music as a novice, hike up to waterfalls and check out the rock/metal scene in Delhi.

Adeeba
Ph.D Student
I am a PhD candidate in Dr Shruthy’s lab. I did my masters in animal science from MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Having a keen interest in working in the therapeutics field, especially cancer, directly led me here from NCBS-TIFR. I am investigating the role of novel signature genes in metastasis conditions in the melanoma. Besides science, I do enjoy travelling, tracking, drawing, reading and writing short comic fictions and poetry.

Ravi Dubey
Ph.D Student
I am from a small town near Nainital. I did my masters in Medical Biotechnology from PGI Lucknow. Driven by curiosity and a desire to make a meaningful impact, my work revolves around Non-Professional Phagocytosis in cancer using melanoma as a tumor model. I am a Rick and Morty fan and outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy playing cricket and badminton.

Amisha Bhattacharya
Project Associate
I was born in Kolkata, the city of joy and raised in the beautiful coastal city of Vizag. I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Kerala. I previously worked in Dr. Nirmalya Ganguli’s lab at NIAB, Hyderabad, where I explored gene editing technologies aimed at developing high yielding livestock. Here I am currently exploring non-professional phagocytosis in liver cancer and its implications on disease progression. Outside the lab, I enjoy cooking, anime and taking long walks surrounded by nature and my favourite playlist.

Pranav Rana
Project Associate
I am from Himachal Pradesh, home to the lesser Himalayas. I have a BTech in Bioengineering and MTech in Biomedical Technology from IIT BHU Varanasi. I later worked at ACTREC in Shilpee Lab on deciphering the role of UPR in radiation induced senescence reversal in GBM and its therapeutic potential. I am interested in tumor immunology, cancer biology and immunotherapy. Here I am looking at non professional phagocytosis in clinical samples. In my free time, I enjoy sketching, painting, listening to Taylor Swift and cooking! and teaching GenZ slang to my peers.

Palavi Verma
Ph.D Student
I am from Sundernagar, a beautiful town in Himachal Pradesh. I hold a masters in molecular and human genetics from BHU Varanasi. In my downtime, I enjoy cooking, shopping and sipping chai nonstop. I am most excited when I unpack new orders received in the lab. When it comes to giving lab meeting presentations, I like to keep things fast and furious! At the SSA Lab, I am focused on studying immune evasion in melanoma.

Imran
Project Assistant
I have done my bachelor degree in Medical Lab technology from Mewar University Rajasthan. I recently joined the lab as a project Assistant to help with lab management.

Poorva Kumari
Project Associate
I was born in Patna and have an integrated BS-MS degree in Biological Sciences from IISER Bhopal. I am interested in therapeutic approaches in cancer, in the realms of immunotherapy, RNA and stem cell biology. I love to play table-tennis, badminton and convincing myself to practice my violin. I love obscure science facts and cute crawly creatures! Here,I will be using genome-wide CRISPR screening to elucidate the mechanisms which lead to CAR-T cell resistance in B-cell lymphoma.

Ragini
Project Associate
I was born and raised in Faridabad, Haryana. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from University of Delhi, followed by a Master's in Biotechnology from Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Haryana. For my master's thesis, I worked in Dr. Avinash Bajaj’s lab, where I investigated the role of tumor–nerve crosstalk in cancer progression. Currently, I am focused on the role of CD73 in cancer metastasis. Beyond the lab, I enjoy spending time in nature and love to watch movies.

Principal Investigator
Dr. Shruthy Suresh Aggarwal was born and raised in Chennai for 21 years and received a B.Tech in Biotechnology from IIT Madras in 2013. A summer of exciting research at Michigan State University as a Khorana Scholar in 2012 motivated her to pursue graduate studies in the US. She obtained her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas as a HHMI Med to Grad fellow in 2019. Her Ph.D. thesis work in the lab of Dr. Kathryn O'Donnell focused on CRISPR based genome-wide screens to identify regulators of the PD-L1 immune checkpoint in lung cancer. She then pursued postdoctoral training in Dr. Richard White’s lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York. Her postdoctoral work entailed developing an in vivo CRISPR based high throughput metastasis screening platform in adult zebrafish and identifying new transcriptional 'seeds' of metastasis. Her postdoctoral work was funded by a Melanoma Research Foundation Career Development Award and a Translational Research in Oncology Training award. Dr. Suresh Aggarwal returned to India and joined Trivedi School of Biosciences, Ashoka University as an Assistant Professor in 2023. She is currently starting as a PI in CSIR-IGIB.
